Worst Dress Ideas of the 20th Century
We don't think they were trying very hard, but participants in TIME Magazine's 20th Century survey came up with a dozen dress styles for the "worst ideas" list. All--shudder--were born in our lifetime. Here they are, for your laughter or tears:
- Leisure suits
- Earth shoes
- Thong underwear for men
- Stiletto heels
- Beeping watches
- Mohawk hairstyles
|
- Culottes
- Spray on hair
- Message T-shirts
- Hair club for men
- Suntans
- Mood rings
|
Here are a few more suggestions, which were either created or popularized, in our lifetimes:
- Pony tails for men
- Zoot suits
- Ear rings for men
- Jewelry for the tongue, nose, lip, etc.
- Tattoos
- Shaved heads (except those for patients taking chemo)
- Shoes with pointed toes
- Horn-rimmed eyeglasses
- Baggy, knee-length pants for basketball players
- Long, baggy pants for boys, especially those that slip halfway down the butt
- Baseball caps turned backwards, or sideways
And that's why they call us square, which, like liberal, used to be considered a nice word.
