The top event of the 20th Century, according to TIME Magazine, was Elvis teaching American teens to rock n'roll.
The surprising and controversial winner was chose in a turn-of-the-century poll conducted by TIME.
Conspcious by its absence from the list is the women's liberation movement in the last half of the century.
Also missing from the list is the 1987 disappearance of seven million American kids. That's how many disappeared from income tax reports that year after the IRS ruled that taxpayers had to list a social security number for every kid they claimed as a dependent.
